Scientific Committee

Jon Woodend is an Assistant Professor of Counselling Psychology in the Faculty of Health at the University of Victoria, and a Registered Psychologist (Alberta) in Canada.

My research focuses on international career transitions, including the experiences of international students, accompanying partners, and immigrant workers. I additionally publish conceptual and methodological work on qualitative research, advancing approaches that navigate the complex, contextual nature of career development. I primarily teach in a professional counselling psychology program, where I support the development of students’ competencies in career counselling and trauma-informed, person-centred practice. My research program also explores ways to meaningfully engage trainees in the publication process, helping them build skills that bridge practice and research. Across my work, I am particularly interested in how career theories and practices can better support individuals facing systemic and structural barriers, with the goal of promoting more equitable access to career development.
