Dr. Hui Xu is an Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Macau whose research focuses on mental health, with particular emphasis on vocational psychology and career development—including career selection and adaptation under uncertainty—psychotherapy science, psychological assessment, and cross-cultural issues.
Guided by a strong belief in the reciprocal relationship between science and practice, he has published in leading journals such as the Journal of Counseling Psychology and the Journal of Vocational Behavior, and his recent work advances the dual-process theory of career decision-making (DTC), the concept of career wisdom, and the Interest Formation and Consequence (InFoCo) model.
He has received the Bruce and Jane Walsh Grant in Memory of John Holland from the American Psychological Foundation, the Annual Outstanding Graduate Student Award from the Council of Counseling Psychology Training Programs, and the Early Career Award from the Society of Vocational Psychology.
Dr. Xu has served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Vocational Behavior and as Chair of the Society of Vocational Psychology, and he currently serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Counseling Psychology. He is also a Fellow of the American Psychological Association.
